Young Scholars Computer Centre provides free Computer training, English communication, and English, Hindi typing skills to visually impaired students and students from economically backward sections of society. The mission is to empower these students by developing basic skills so that they may live independent and dignified lives.
Set up in 1997, the Centre began by providing training in computer education at a very subsidized fee to sighted students from underprivileged backgrounds as most such courses were being taught at unaffordable prices at that time. In 2015 we identified a growing need for computer education amongst visually impaired students. We decided to arrange for free training for them and equipped ourselves with staff and software to enable us to do so.
Commutation is difficult for most people in Delhi, but especially so for visually impaired students from marginalised sections of society, who have come to the capital city from across the country, and living in hostels with meagre resources. In order to make sure that these students are able to come to the Centre conveniently, we also provide free transport facility, either by way of arranging vehicles for them or by giving financial assistance.
To enable both sighted and visually impaired students in accessing the job market and be independent, we also added English communication, and English, Hindi typing skills to the courses being taught at the Centre.

Laptop Distribution
Over the years, we have worked with various like-minded organisations and individuals who have donated laptops and other equipment for free or at heavily subsidized rates. Others have organized special training and skill enhancement courses and workshops.
Training in spoken English and Communication skills is provided to enable students from underprivileged backgrounds to face job interviews and access other opportunities.
The Centre is equipped with 14 laptops and 15 desktops. To visually impaired students, computer training is provided through Non-Visual Desktop Access, a screen reading software that enables blind and vision impaired people to use computers. We have visually impaired and sighted faculty working together at the Centre.
The Centre has installed tactile path to aid movement of visually impaired students.
Transport assistance is provided to the Visually Impaired students to enable them to reach the Centre easily from their hostels.
Meritorious students are encouraged and recognised by various awards and scholarships. Many have been able to access employment opportunities as a result of the digital literacy and skills acquired at the Centre.
Respected personalities in fields such as human rights, education, disability, and social work are invited to our annual programs to encourage and inspire our students. We also present our year-long work to our donors in these programs.
The Young Scholars Computer Centre was set up and is managed by the Young Scholars Educational Trust registered on 24th June 1996, which also runs the Young Scholars Book Bank.
The Young Scholars Educational Trust has been raising funds through enlargement of their membership. It relies purely on donations and contributions of friends and well-wishers who believe in the motto of working for the underprivileged and the marginalised.
